Sorry about the loss of your Mother. I still think about my Mom, and it has been 30 yrs.
As others have said, guild if you have one, is probably you best bet, from what I have seen from others. Ebay I have been told is good also, as other said.

My condolences on your sad loss and it is understandable that you would want your mother's collection to go to a good home. There are some good suggestions here, but may I also suggest advertising in the Classified section of a quilting or craft magazine, either singly for larger items such as a sewing machine, or as a bulk buy. They are usually free for private sellers.

The only problem that I have encountered with Craig's list is that you get some emails with requests for sending you a check and having someone else pick up item. The list does have a warning about this type of scammer. Putting a statement in your ad that you only accept cash is a good way to prevent that type of scammer.

I paid for a sewing machine ($600) through PayPal.

I used the lady's computer in her home to make the payment. That does involve a bit of trust on both parties, but the payee knew she had her funds right away.

I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember she will always be with you in your heart and in your memories. I lost my Mom in January of this year and knowing this has helped me cope with my loss.

I'm sorry for losing your Mom- it's sad no matter when - I hope all goes well in selling your Mom's equipment and fabric- maybe a Vo- tech school or a craft/ art school could use some of these items - also churches can use sewing machines- try some charity organizations like free cycle as well as guilds
