I have the Janome Memory Craft 6600 and paid something close to $1500 for it. It has more stitches than I will ever use and several fonts for the alphabet. While it has something like a 10 inch throat space and does a great straight or zigzag, many of the so called quilting stitches are simply utility stitches....and those can only be made so big which isn't big at all. Wish I had thought through this purchase more before buying, but I wanted it so I got it. If you do more sewing than a normal person can in a years time the purchase may be worth it. Try one of the machines out first before buying...wish I had.

First of all, welcome and what a cute quilt! Next, I'd recommend trying out machines from other dealers in your area. One of the prerequisites I had for my machine was that I buy from a relatively local dealer in case I had questions or problems. Keep an open mind. You may still love the Janome, but check some others as well.

Welcome to the Quilting Board! I love your quilt! I would definitely do what beckyboo1 said: try out different machines locally. I bought my Babylock locally and it comes with lifetime lessons if I wish or any questions, or problems of course. I would definitely shop around. Enjoy the time looking around and don't settle - get something you really like. After all, a sewing machine is an investment and you want to enjoy it!

I bought a Pfaff 7570 when it first came out. It is still my all time favorite machine. I have a Janome 8900 that I plan to replace. In my opinion after owning several Janome the quality is just not there anymore. I just seem to have more issues with it being temperamental. I've sewed for years and have used many machines. If the reviews are bad I would be very cautious. That's a lot of money and you do lots of sewing.

No one ever addresses used machines. I'm on a very limited budget and managed to find a used Husqvarna Sapphire 875. Trading in my 10 yr old Janome, ( it was like putting gramma on the ice flow ), I got a REALLY good deal with warranty. There are always new models and people trade up all the time. If you have a dealer you trust and have brand loyalty there will be some good bargains out there.

That's a beautiful quilt for the little fireman! Can't help about the machine, I've got three Singers--old, older and pretty old but not the oldest.

i know that the 1100 was and is a workhorse but does it have USB capability for embroidery? I bought the 9900 to replace my 9700 because of the USB.
