Here is the fabric I am using. I got it at Hobby Lobby I'm pretty sure.

This is as easy as 1 2 3 4 5!
These are just under 4" the blade is 1 7/8"

1. choose your spot. I chose a candy cane LOL
2. lay your plastic template on the candy cane and trace the candy cane onto the template
because the background of this fabric is so black I had a hard time seeing the lines so I turned it over and used
the backside instead.
3. repeat for 8 blades
4. cut out the blades being careful to cut accurately - I prefer to cut around the blades and then trim them to the c
correct size. It's just easier than cutting them accurately from the fabric
5. then sew the blades together

and you"re done! if you are using it as an applique
You can back them and sew around the edge to make them into a magnet
add a loop for a Christmas ornament

You do need to cover the center. it is small so you can either cover it with stitching or stitch it down to the backing and add a button to cover
since it is so small I don't try to use a circle of fabric to cover it. on the larger ones I would make a flat yoyo and applique that over the center. but here it is too small for that.

I would be happy share my templates with you. I am going to post this as a tutorial and I will post a downloadable template there.

Here is a Christmas ornament in progress I made last year.
You can see how I am doing this by hand. I like to use the herringbone stitch.
The second pic is stitched on my machine. I made a magnet out of it

I love the fabric. I always enjoy seeing what the kaleidoscopes start out as. It is just so fascinating to me. Thanks for posting the picture.
