Featherweights sold at quilt shows?.

I adore my featherweights. I have 2. One is black 1947 I bought from eBay several years ago for 125. The other is ruby red 1941 and she was expensive but simply beautiful and has the same birth year as me. I couldn’t resist her...same birthday and my favorite color as well. I will soon take a class to learn how to maintain them. I have had the black one cleaned and it was not very expensive. They sew beautifully and I love to hear them hum.

I have found that where you live is a big factor. In my state you never see them for sale and when you do expect to pay $500 or more, Painting is another thing if you want to have one painted expect to pay $600 and up.

That is outrageous but if the market bears it. I haven't sewn with mine a while but I need to get it out. Maybe just doe some simple piecing. It is so pretty. Hate to not have it out.
I saw several at the quilt show I addended last week - and was floored at what they were asking. $600- $700 or more and that was for a cleaned, serviced machine, not a repaint. You might be better to get a restored one off eBay. Especially if the vendor is not local, so you'd be in the same boat if you had problems.

I love the featherweights. They are such dependable machines. I learned to sew on them through 4-H and became obsessed that I must own one! I paid $250 for the first one thru a want ad. I found a white one at a garage sale for $85 that I gave to my ten year old daughter who is now 29 and since that is her only machine, its still going strong. Then the other day, I found one at a thrift store for $160 which I grabbed because I just love them. They predicted you could use it for a lifetime, give it to your daughter and then to her daughter!. That being said, if I didn't have one - I'd be still cruising for one! Finding these machines took years and luck. So if you want one and can live with the price -I'd just go for it.
