I use my walking foot for all of these reasons and also when I do patchwork where many seams come together. It just walks right over them nice and easy. I also use it to attach side borders to the quilts that I make to help the quilt keep its shape together just right. I like my borders on the straight of grain and most quilting I do is piecing and warps out a little. The walking foot helps with that wonderfully.

I take my walking foot off when I put on the free motion foot or a zipper foot. Other than that, it pretty much stays put!

Okay, I'm confused. I just purchased my walking foot and haven't used it yet. I was told that I could only use it when I was quilting very thick pieces and never use it for regular sewing. Sounds like my advice was incorrect?

Very glad to see this thread appear.......I have tried using it on things other than quilts and found it worked beautifully; but, thought I was doing the wrong thing. Happy to hear I was not.

A quilting group at the chuch where I volunteer to make quilts. They suggested buying the foot but only for the sandwiched pieces.

At a reader's suggestion, I just purchased a walking foot for my Pfaff quilting machine and I am looking forward to using it for the first time on a quilt I am just finishing. Thanks for the information.

This is the greatest place in the world to ask questions and never, never, never do I feel as if I asked something stupid or have I been made to feel embarassed! There is soooo much knowledge on this board and everyone is willing to help. Moral to this story......ask away...you'll have your answer in no time!

Also....my machine a Singer Inspiration did not come with a walking foot but I plan on ordering one asap!

I use it for lots of sewing, except when you have to "ease" something. Then you would need to use your regular foot.
