I saw one of those spoons for quilting on a website(forgot which one)for $20.00, on the handle it had a protector like the kind you put on a pencil. I went to secondhand store for .50 I got a spoon and I already have the pencil protector. Now to practice. It's not easy, but I'm working on it.

I use a little patch that sticks on my finger called "Thimble-it" (I think that's what it's called...) somehow the package has been thrown away... I can feel the pressure of the needle, but don't get pricked...

One note, though... I'm a very, very, very beginner!!!

The hand underneath helps to "rock" the needle. I always work up a callous on my finger underneath and my thumb on top.

I use my thumb nails, both for under the quilt and on top.

I have a friend who has the most youthful, flawless face. She looks 40 instead of her age which is 60. She uses Prep H before she puts on her makeup. I think it's time I stock up on some for both fingers and face.

I have the largest collection of contemporary thimbles   and not one of them works for my underneath finger as I need the sensation (not the pain!) of the needle. For the sewing hand I ended up with roxannes for the finger and the ted storm for the thumb and that works great.

Because of my job (chiropodist) I have to have short fingernails so that is not an option either and in the video I could not figure out where the needle was.
I will go trough all the glue I have in the house
What is a chiropodist? Sounds like chiro for the feet.

Read the label. You are looking for a product called cyanoacrylate. (sp?) Here in the states, it is sold as 'crazy glue'. Put a thin layer over your finger where it rubs and sit still touching NOTHING until it dries, or you will be very sorry. KEEP it away from your face until dry. Good Luck.
