We are keeping ours.

1. Our security system and DSL use it.

2. Our house is too large for us to hear our cell phones from anywhere, and I am not carrying the phone around in my own house.

3. We live right around the corner from FEMA and smack in between Camp David and Site R, so during a national event it is unlikely we will have cell service.

4. In an event like 9/11 we WON'T have cell service, period; even when land lines are spotty they are better than nothing.

5. We can recharge our cell phones in the car if we have to, but it is nice knowing we can continue to use our land line phones indefinitely if the power is out.

We changed over most of our house phones to 1950's style rotary phones for some of these reasons.

We want to get rid of our land line because it is so expensive here. I have my PC on it and cable, but they can be moved to something else. My worry is as my age I have 2 cordless phones and always forget to recharge them. I always have a phone then with the land line. my cells would be dead most of the time.

We have a land line. I like it because no matter where I go I can transfer my phone calls to that number. We have pay as you go cells for emergencies.I just feel more secure with a land line. There have been times when I must be out of range of a signal because the cell said emergency calls only and wouldn't work.

Need my land line to receive/send faxes for work. Fax is also my phone. Cannot use cellphone within 20+ miles of where we live, so cellphone is only for traveling down country. As long as I work and live here, I will need a land line.

I'd love to do that too, but in my case, we can't. We live down in a gully, in a trailer, and the cell phones don't work in most parts of the house. My DD goes out on the back porch in the evening to talk with her BF, 'cause the cell phone doesn't work in her bedroom.

Going without isn't an option for us, we get no signal for cell phones, which is fine with me.
