I told one of the expectant younger women at church one day that being pregnant and being menopausal had a lot in common, not being able to sleep, bloat, hormones, heat, but at the end she'd get a sweet little baby and I got whiskers and gray hair!

I found this so timely. I had a personal summer event at work on Monday that caused me to remove all clothing in the bathroom and wring it out. I use ice packs at night. I can actually turn off the heat in the house in the winter time and heat up the bedroom just fine. I think the worst is the desert. Hate that.

Actually, some of us do go through menopause with the only major symptom being a cessation of menstrual periods.

One is not necessarily "doomed" to misery for several years.

I agree that I have been one of the lucky ones. My reproductive system was great - while it lasted - but I menopaused out at 42. Which I've been told is very early when one still has all one's "parts"
