Lose Lose. Wouldn't it just make you feel special to have somebody totally disregard your taste and put your fabric choices on the back? It would make me feel so special I'd let the dog have it or wad it up and throw it in the back of the closet. What's so hard about making something for somebody with their color choices?
How would I know it was the back? I've seen very expensive baby crib sets that have one print on one side and pieced on the other. It's called reversible.

why not make a simple quilt out of HER color choices, and a really SPECIAL quilt in a more complicated design out of YOUR colors when the baby has its first Birthday. That way you and the mom will KNOW the baby more and will have a better FEEL for what is appropriate!

If it is a gift, it should be something that the receiver wants and enjoys(just my opinion)...they have to live with it daily. I would make what she likes.

What about some pinwheels in solids in the flower petal colors and use that fabric as background?

Yes. I just finished one for my DD. To bright and to busy. It does fit her personally though.

I made 3 baby quilts this summer from 3 of my nieces. I made them as gifts and I choose the pattern and the colors. I don't think a quilt could go wrong if it is a gift.

My opinion only.........if you are making it for her and you have ask her to pick out fabric, then make it like she wants it. After all, she and the baby will be the ones enjoying using it or not. Then you can pick out the fabric you like and make one you like for the baby. After all, baby can never have to many quilts.

How about a pinwheel quilt? If that's the fabric, why not combine it with some that is a patternless tone on tone or some batik.

Why not make the receiver what she wants?
