Are you a "particular" buyer, when it comes to batiks?

Gee, I thought that would be an easy question to answer....But as I sit here and think, I am perplexed. I LOVE LOVE LOVE batiks, it is pretty much all I buy. I dislike flowery prints, old-fashioned designs.
Hoffman, Moda, Kaufman and Bali are truly lovely, the colors blend well with other lines. The semi-solids, with that watery look enchant me. The colors are rich, there is a depth to the "design". That's the only word that says it for me....Buy what you find to have quality, whatever the style...It will be a winner...And we will be watching!

I am not a brand snob, will look at anything, but I am betting I can guess on which line that is - the hideous one. Its by a brand that usually has much better lines. If I had to be choosy and give you a name, I would say Hoffman and Kaufman. Those are my favorites, but I have bought from many different lines and almost always been happy. As with anything buying online, occasionally a fabric will look better on the computer, but hey, thats what the backing for a wall hanging is for! Virg

I love that they are finally doing more light batiks. I love the big blotchy colors but they are difficult to incorporate into some quilt patterns so I find I am tending more towards the "reads as solid" prints. I don't stick with a single fabric maker, but I do agree that the heavier batiks are what I look for.
In my LQS in eastern Washington, I happened to be in the store when a delivery of batiks was unpacked and a light creamy yellow with a wheat pattern was unpacked (I live in wheat country)...the bolt never made it to the shelves as I snagged several yards and the ladies in the shop with me also went nuts and finished up the bolt.
