I think there are a lot of us that buy fabric from Wal mart. My thinking is if you are making a quilt for someone you know will not take care of it then by all means Wal Mart fab. it is.

I wouldn't be concerned about where I bought the fabric as long ans it is what I wanted and it is of decent quality. Your quilt will be beautiful.

Great buy!! Several years ago (before our Walmart quilt carrying fabric), I bought quite a bit there since they had fabrics that I could not find anywhere else. The quilts wore great!!

I agree whole-heartedly on the ASA I can on the LQS. But I'd have to give up quilting if I had to pay those kinds of prices and not get my material from my stash, yard sales, WM, Ebay, estate sales, etc. And I once worked for a LQS in So IL and completely understand what the WMs of the world are doing to the LQS business. It's just sad; but it is as it is unfortunately.

It's not just JoAnn's it's also Walmarts. Our local Walmart has fabrics that use to be 4-5 dollars now up to 9 dollar a yard.

For that matter an LQS in a neighboring town has since this summer raised prices of sale table that use to be $1.49 a yard to $3.98 a yard and the higher priced bolts that were all current in year has fabric from 1996 (over ten years old) for $6.98 on up. I did not notice how old it was until I came home with it. But than again that LQS was just sold to someone else and reason for doubling up on prices.

I have been more shocked with our local Walmart though almost doubling price per yard on there better quality fabric in the last couple months but yet can go to a neighboring town and buy at that Walmart and fabric is better quality and couple dollars cheaper so go figure. You'd think all Walmarts would be the same.

I don't shop at Walmart if possible. Prefer to spend my money at a small business. Small businesses just can't get the deals that Walmart gets. That's why there's not a lot of fabric stores anymore.

My walmart just started selling fabric again.. I found some great fabric and now making several tops. My grandkids quilts were made from their fabric years ago and still look great. I shop my lqs stores too, but like alot of us can't afford their prices.

I buy a lot of fabric there, but recently purchased 10 yds of the $1.50 cent stuff, it was just the perfect colors for a quilt back until I prewashed it then most of the printed color faded to the point where you can hardly see the print. I had only washed 1/2 but it is all sitting there now waiting for a faded look quilt, because thats all I can figure out to use it. The fabric was all cotton and I dont know whether I will indulge myself on any more of the $1.50 stuff again. :(

My mother made quilts in the 1950s and 1960s from whatever she could get her hands on. Old jeans, coats, flour sacks--anything that was woven and not being used for something else--went into her quilt tops. She got many of those items from thrift shops. Wal-Mart's fabric department would have been "walking in tall cotton" for her. None of her quilts would have won a prize in a quilt show, but they kept her 11 kids warm at night. Those quilts are still used by her children, grandchildren, and even a few great-grandchildren.

I have made many quilts from Wal Mart fabric because I have found patterns of fabric that other fabric lines don't offer-I especially use the fabric for childrens quilts for donation and so far haven't had anything to complain about their fabric other than they took it out of my local store!!
