I just made one but how do you not cut off the tips on the sides off when you are sewing them together?

tips, i think it's all in the measurements. if you were using 3" squares, you would use a rectangle measuring 3x5.5 inches. One half inch less makes the "point or tip" have room not to be sewn into the seam when they are all sewn into the quilt. good luck.
