Because it is a scrappy quilt, you can pick up more at any time, they don't have to match what you have, the more the better, they say. I have about 5 different prints of each color right now. I do not have my gray or black on white prints yet.

Ggal970I managed to view Bonnie on Quiltcam yesterday and she answered your question regarding yardage. She said that if you use approximately 9 yards for the backing of a quilt you will need about 12 to 14 yards for the front allowing for all those seam allowances. She also said that she used about 60 (yes I nearly fell off the chair) different greens and the fabrics she showed on her blog was only a small selection of the colours she used. Another viewer asked about changing the colour scheme and Bonnie said that if you have 3 colourways that place nice together it would work, I think the quilter was thinking of blue, yellows and burgundy, then the grey as the constant. I was wondering if you could just use a selection of creams for the background as I have plenty of them.

I am still sitting on the fence and wondering if I REALLY need to start another quilt, I have more than enough to keep me occupied for the next 12 months (or longer)

Hi Everyone, I am online again...I can't really complain with all the suffering and loss all around my state...I had water, propane stove and the fireplace/woodstove so we were warm enough and had plenty of food...I think I did more cooking than usual...Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts....Our home is surrounded on three sides with very tall oaks and only a few branches came down...we did have the canopies thinned out several years ago... I think that helped...Now to delete all the emails.... Will check in later...Anne

Yes, yes, yes! I love the look of those, OK. You are too clever for words when it comes to EQ7-thank you. The only thing I'll do differently is put 4 or 5 blocks in two corners and 3 or 4 blocks in the opposite corners; sort of unbalanced if you know what I mean. Those pics make me more confident in my choice of adding small blocks; I was afraid it would look too busy. I got the idea because I don't think I have enough fabric for solid borders but now I'm glad I don't. Thank you!!!

Oh I love that idea. When the small blocks are evenly spaced like in the second pic it looks so stiff. I wish I were more clever with EQ--don't know how to space those little squares off center. If I were you, I'd put 1 to 1 1/2 inch sashes between the border blocks to help define them.

While it would change your border widths, have you thought about putting the smaller blocks on-point JanRN? I think that would take away from the stiffness that OKSGlad mentioned. I do like your idea about putting groups of the blocks on the corners! I like borders that are not just strips of fabric!

QE, tried it both ways: mini-blocks on point and straight. For some reason they look better straight. I'm just going to use small sashing between them, maybe only 1/2" wide; the 1" wide seemed too large. Will decide when and if I get that far. Besides working extra, I'm finishing up cleaning my mother's house and hope to have it on the market in the next week or two. Not a good time of year to try to sell a house.

Yes, 1/2" will probably be better than 1" being that the blocks are smaller.

Good to know you are almost ready to put the house on the market.
