I learned how to do pinwheels at a 4-H quilt camp with my granddaughter. The trick is to square up the HST as they are sewn. The 45 degree line on the ruler needs to be right on the 45 degree line on your square. Then sew the two HST together, but be sure to lay out the complete pinwheel before you sew it so that the blades are all going the correct way. When I sew the two halves together, I line up the center so that the seams nest, put a pin or two there, and then begin sewing from one end. When I get near the center, I take out the pins and lift up the top piece to see if the seams are coming together correctly. Here is where you can move the top piece a smidge to the right or left to get that center exactly right.

I love making pinwheels, and when you figure out how to make them with all (well most) of the centers spot on, you will love it too.

Very nice, sign up for the 2012 quilt block of the month class on craftsy, she has great methods for quilt blocks and made the pinwheel work out much easier than other methods I have used. I loved the class for that as I am just learning how to do different piecing.

WOW! You did a beautiful job. Lovely color combination. I use them in lots of quilts. Usually do the line down the center of a two squares together. By the way, why not let hubby strip the wall paper, so you can sew.

I taught an friend to quilt and used pin wheels, never again, did she have a problem with them.........until I used the Jenny Doan method.....after about 10 attempts she finally got it.

Very difficult lady to teach, brilliant mind but found blocks very difficult. I showed her how to fold fabric to strighten the edges and avoid 'bumps in the strips, She could not even cut a square and getting her to cut down oversize blocks was a nightmare.......I got a few more grey hairs teaching that lady.
