Help! I cut my backing fabric length same size as the top!

How about cutting it in half and adding a piece of your embroider work in the center.

Have you ever tried facing a quilt? Do the SITD as you planned, then do the border. Use leftover jelly rolls and place them right side down on the front of the quilt. Sew around, then turn the facing to the back. That way it will be wide enough to cover any shift in quilting. You wouldn't have a border showing on the front, but IMHO the quilt is gorgeous as it is and no border is needed.

IMHO, almost all of my backings have had to be pieced one way or another on my quilts. In the 70s when I first learned to quilt, they told you to cut your backing into 3 pieces instead of 2 and then center the seam lines on the back. If you have more of the backing fabric, I would just cut the length in half, put another piece of backing in between and then cut the back the size you want. 2 seams and you are done. Easy, peezy!

This is beautiful! I love the colors. I've found that my mistakes have turned into some of the most satisfying creative opportunities. I do my best work fixing mistakes! I have lots of practice. LOL You have lots of options already suggested. Please post a picture of your finished piece.

I agree, the strips in the middle make it look intentional rather than an "add on"

Since I am on a "no buying" tear, I seldom have enough backing for my projects. I often have to piece in another fabric. I think the above suggestion is the best in order to lengthen a "short" piece. Will look just fine and to be honest, who's going to pick up your runner and look at the back and if they do, they'll think you "so clever".....
