Directional fabrics with a block/design like that can be very tricky to work with.

Seems like a project where a lot was learned - and - in my opinion - it's quite all right to start over with a different pattern or different fabrics.

The fabrics did go together nicely.
I am going to switch the position of the nautical fabric and the blue fabric so the star will be more noticable. Thanks for the help.

Now that you've posted a picture, I really like your quilt top, Sewfine! Do what makes you happy but I think it looks great as is.

I agree. If she doesn't like it the way it is, I applaud her for figuring out what doesn't work for her and changing it. That's how we grow.

I have a terrible time with directionality and HSTs. Did a chevron and one of the prints was a definite one-way. Yikes! Made a mental note to use two-way fabric the next time around with this pattern.

I love your fabrics and what you've done so far, but you have to be happy with it too. If it was me, I'd keep this one for myself so we'd have a matching set.

I also had the same thought about keeping the current one because it is a shared memory for both of them.

Don't be too critical. You are seeing all the problems, but the average person will not see all of that! I am in Ocean Springs too!

No advise on the quilt but I am a Michigander who know exactly where Colon is. It's tucked away in south central Michigan away from traffic, industry and is just a lovely gem in the middle of farm country. Good luck on the quilt. I have not made on yet, but it is on the "someday" list.
