Nice job and neat fabric!
For my pincushion: I've made a muslin pouch for the sandbox (fine-grained) sand to act as a weight and a pincushion. Then I enclose it in my material of choice and continue on with making the rubble-bag. Have never had a problem with it leaking sand. had it for years!
It takes a little "training" to use it as it's on my right side of the machine, but it does come in handy and I love that pincushion part. I used to, and still do, throw threads to my left into a floor wastebasket.
Whatever works.

I have a thread catcher as seen in picture, but I found out I missed a great deal and thread ended up on the thread catcher. My cairn terrier was always by my feet and the threads ended up on her back , ever so easy to remove. She has just passed away and the other dogs don't keep still enough to become thread catchers so will have to make sure the threads go in.
