Lovely quilt...what a treasure! Even though the V's are floral designs, they might have represented Victory Gardens which were planted during both World Wars, both in family yards and public parks. Mostly edibles which supported the food shortage on the Homefront.

That's what immediately came to my mind. Why would someone sell their Mom's beautiful hand work? Shame on her. You got a beautiful quilt but if it were me I don't think I could enjoy it knowing that the maker's skill was so devalued. Well, maybe I'd take it to give it the respect it deserved. Very sad is all I can say.

So glad you found it and are giving it the good home it deserves. It would be especially great if you are able to find out more about it through your boyfriend's acquaintance. Please place that info on the label when you get it done. I'm sure the mom is smiling down on you knowing her quilt finally found a forever home.

What a find...we never know why a treasure like this gets put on the market, but now you can preserve it. Thanks for sharing.

    It's a lovely quilt top.

Who knows why a family member does not want to keep something?

It is -IMO - much better to sell something like that - even if at a yard sale - than to store it someplace where the mice and mold will attack the item.

My DM had a lot of patterns like that and a lot of them were ordered from the news paper.
