Have made a few, mostly using the log cabin method. Best not to layer with batting and backing. Using flannel or fleece for the backing with no batting is much better.

I have made this pattern called a "circle Jean quilt". The pattern can be found at :

It went together fairly easily, but I would recommend a heavier needle, and strong thread. I put mine together with a zigzag stitch.
I have also made a rag quilt out of jeans, but you should use a scissor with a spring in the handle so your hand doesn't get fatigued.

Be sure to double sew each seam, when using denim.
It is heavy and the seams will pull apart from the weight.

Don't make it real big. I made each of grands one and put a good fleece blanket on the back. Blankets are less expensieve

No batting needed cause they are warm and heavy enuf as is.

I stenciled sun bonnet kids on the front. :D

I just added a pix of one of my jeans quilts.
I had different colored jeans and/or used heavier wt. material that in that quilt.
I also stenciled on it.
I don't really quilt them;
I tie them, cause they are so hard to work with.

My first jeans quilt was made from 22 pairs of old much loved jeans and I made them into a rag quilt with fluffy seams. I used flannel for the backing. It was random pattern with the different shades and colours of the denim making the pattern as it grew. I sewed on pockets and a variety of jean labels too. I gave it to a biker friend. My tip would be to make sure that you have lots of appropriate thread as it seems to eat up thread. It took me two days to make a king size quilt. Good luck. I am sure you will be hooked. I also googled Jeans quilts and spent ages looking for inspiration.

thank all of you for the good Ideas, I need to make to smaller jean quilts to give to two of my boys for there birthdays. one is in may. I just hope I will have enough jeans to get one done. thank you again. Penny

I went to the Thrift Store and bought up jeans,
Back then they had them in all colors.
Or go to gr sales and get them.
If you can get them from relataives then it makes them a family quilt :)

I in the process of making a grandmother's garden quilt with recycle jeans. It start out as an experiment then merge into a quilt. Not sure how to quilt it. I think I will tie it since it will be use as a picnic quilt.
