how wide do you cut off your selvages???

Sewing them together is the quick part. Deciding how to arrange them took forever. I just strip sewed them onto muslin squares. Start at one edge, sew right on the edge of selvage and muslin, overlap the next selvage and sew right on its edge, and continue across.

I've been saving my selvages ever since I saw a cute selvage coin purse in a magazine. Thanks for your cute inspiration to do something with them!

I had a cousin who made a tote bag out of clothing tags/labels. It sure was an attention getter! Now that so many clothing items are tag-less, it might be harder to do that project!

Thanks for all the great comments! I used all different widths, 1/2" to 2". Karen Griska of selvagequilts.com recommends 1-1/2" but I found that can really cut into your yardage for other uses and depending on the fabric/selvage it would get covered up anyway. I'm cutting most of mine 3/4 to 1" now.

Too cute! And what a great idea! I'm saving my selvages for a fan quilt.
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna
