Guess I didnt know any better at the time. LOL! But, I have used flannel several times since, with no big problems. I like to use it for backing as it makes the quilt feel nice and cushy!

It would be great as a baby quilt. BUT....if you love it, then keep it. This is a beautiful and very colorful quilt. You did a great job and I love it.
