That's very true, and when I machine quilt, I try to find a print that will hide the stitching. For most of my hand quilting, I use muslin.

Same here. I can hide my crude FMQ stitches with a printed back, but I always use muslin for hand quilting.

I use muslin as backings for wallhangings. For larger quilts I prefer a print.

I buy the best quality I can find at Joann's and use a coupon to keep the cost down. But I use muslin all the time on my "summer" quilts, on my "winter" quilts I use fleece as the backing.

I want my back to look as good as the front, so I use muslin or other plain or tone on tone to show off the quilting.

I usually do for traditional quilts. I think it is more authentic.

That's all I ever use because I do quilt as you go and with all the piecing of the back as I go, muslin for me, is the simplest. It also makes for nice soft, comfy quilts and my family loves them. The beautiful backings definitely do add to the beauty of the quilts but the muslin works fine for me and no one has ever complained about it.

Yes every stitch will show but I'm a hand quilter who works with white thread and it just shows a very beautifully quilted back. It has amazed me at the reactions the ladies in my retirement community have had to my quilts and specifically to my hand quilting stitches as I'm totally self taught. My family and I love my quilts but until moving here, never considered them anything special but from the reactions I'm getting, they evidently are. With hand quilting as you go, my quilts are portable and go with me 4 days a week to sewing groups and they are people magnets. I'm constantly having to get up and show people my quilts and talk about them so using the muslin on the back sure hasn't harmed the popularity or reaction of others to my quilts.

Granted, this is totally one of those personal preference kinds of things.

I love it, I like the Roclon brand p. press, I love to show off the quilting. I hardly ever use anything else.
