That is awesome. Maybe you are the perfect person to answer a question I have been thinking about for the last week or so. I have just gone to my third (and hopfully last) funeral this year. I was noticing the casket lining ans thought how plain. I really would like to create my own casket lining being a quilt of course. What size would be a safe size to quilt for this purpose? Plus what size is the lap throw that is over the lowe half of the occupant?

This are the measurements out there are:

Standard Adult Wood: 6'3" x 22"
Standard Adult Metal is: 6'6" x 23"

I assume then that the cover doesn't need to be any larger than 39 x 24 inches. But it really depends which style casket you pick, and there are many many choices. If you decide on one that open on both sides (head and feet) you may already have a cover for the feet. Only one called an Eternity Bed requires a cover, because it doesn't cover the feet. If you choose a half couch (where only the upper half is viewed, the casket has a throw that covers a portion of the top of the couch and it drapes over the body.

You can go to any funeral home and they must allow you to take measurements. The most important thing I must recommend and I would to anyone, is to make sure that a reliable family member is aware of your wishes, if possible at least have a pre-need contract at the funeral home of your choice, since when the moment comes, for obvious reasons, you will not have a vote into it.

I found this picture among my on-line references. I am not thrilled about the idea of a wedding ring pattern, but it works if you like it. I will make sure when I am in the business that us quilters have many more choices.

Thank you so much. How long do you think a normal funeral director would need to install such an item? Is this something I should have done way ahead of time or can i just roll it up in a closet and give it to the funeral director at the time of need?
