Yes, that's my first inclination too, and the dark purple border is beautiful! But if you're still considering black, I've done a couple of quilts that needed a dark sashing or inner border and black would have seemed to be the logical choice. But I used a charcoal grey instead of black and it was softened enough to not be so jarring and absolute
