I have never broken one until recently when I moved my hand too fast, while it was in my hand, hit the table & broke the tip of my favorite seam ripper that came with my Kenmore over 25 years ago. I also use other "cheap" (no brand) ones & they work fine. As for the ergonomic ones, there are different sizes, in handles as well as blades, in case you didn't notice.

I do not think they are made as good as they used to be as I have been breaking them more often. (maybe stronger in my older years:-) ) :lol:

Similar thing happened to me. I had purchased Fons and Porter ripper - used it a couple times before tip broke off. I sent email to them and they actually replaced it. Same thing happened on second one...I didn't bother contacting them again.

Yes but only 2 in 50 years so guess that's not too bad. One was from JoAnn's and the other came with my Baby Lock Quilters Choice and it broke the first time I used it.

Yep, been there, done that. I broke a clover with a white handle. It was the handle itself that broke. The metal part of the seam ripper just broke right out of the handle. Took 10 minutes to find as the metal piece went flying across the room. At the time it was the only one I had. Now i have one for each sewing machine, just in case one breaks.

yep, been there done that now use a pointy stick to turn corners and the smallest (18 mm) rotary for ripping seams

I have wore some out and I have cracked the plastic holding the metal. I do not think they make them like they use too.
