I would make the weighted part removable. better when you need to wash the blanket. they have polished stones in the dollar store if she likes the sensory stimulation of touching the smoothness. just a thought.

If you made the weighted part removable, you could use BB"s or the pellets that you can find at Walt-Mart in the gun or sporting goods department.

I do plan to make it removable so the cover can be washed. I have been pricing stuff on and off today, as my Little Bit will let me. I hope to pick the stuff up tomorrow while she is at Mother's Day Out.

I read your post with great interest. I'm an old grandmother and have never heard a single thing about this before - and never met a child I thought had these symptoms, so I researched a bit. My gosh, this is scary stuff. How long has this been going on? Is the incidence in children increasing? Are scientists doing research into what is causing this?

Whatever I find out, I wish you all the luck in the world in finding comfort for your child, and the blessing of a cure.

Never made one, but my 82 yr. old Mom tells me when they were little, the quilts were so heavy, you couldn't hardly move under them!

Yes,, I have made 3 of these. One for my granddaughter who was 3 and has ADHD. Wonderful, very soothing, and said she felt like she was being hugged all night. My 11 yr old saw it and fell in love because it is very warm, and snuggly. The last was for my husband as kept sneaking the girls blanket to put on his legs. He suffers from restless leg syndrom and he loves his also.
Just google plastic pellets and you will come up with differant sizes and shapes. I just used the smallest round pellet and was very sucessful.
I would sew a row and fill it, sewing another line across to form the filled square.I used cotton on mine, afraid the flannel might rip.
They Are Great Blankets, and easy to make!

Thanks. I have restless leg also but I have a 13 lb cat that loves to sleep on my leg, lol. But the pressure does help so I hope this will help our little one as well.

I used flannel for the squares & fuseable batting. Boy was it heavy. I'm not sure that your daughter would like the denim feel.
As I'm typing this I also remembered the Biscuit Quilts. Hmmm Each square is stuffed. Could you stuff one of those with pellets?

I too, have a special need great grandson and am interested in those weighted blankets or vests or something. I really don't sew but maybe for a special person, maybe I could learn. Let me know what you find out. Jo

Jo, I will post whenever I get started on the quilt. I had thought about doing indivdiual squares then sewing them together. But I am not sure yet. It will depend on what fabric I use and how big I want it. Thinking lap size but might go bigger, more like a throw.
