    Shelly,

No problem I completely understand. Sounds like your busy quilting. I have to say I'm jealous lol. I was looking at longarms but not something within my budget so I just quilt on my home sewing machine.

    2) Josykatz- yes, I did get your block. Sorry for not posting sooner. This month, I had 3 quilts on my Long Arm- I am not normally that packed in, but it just turned out that way. One was a Bronze Star Quilt, one was a Purple Heart Quilt, and the third was a patriotic one that is going to a widow who lost her husband earlier this year in Afghanistan. That made my blocks a tiny bit late.

    3) The two blocks I owe will be mailed by the end of this week, I promise. (probably with a little something extra for being late.)

Looks like I'm having a bit of trouble posting. Some doubleclick ad keeps hanging the page so I"ll try againl.

I'm looking forward to the new block swap and I'm happy to have Shelly as a partner again. I really owe her a new block. Since I'm pretty new to this I had some troubles with the block I sent her. After I sent it my Sister in law came to visit to see my newly fixed up quilting room. She is an artist with a great eye for color. I had her look at the photos and I took of my blocks and ask for her truthful opinion. Seems I didn't do so well with my color choices. Thou it was more about the hue and dark vs light of my blocks. Too bad she didn't get a chance to see it before I sent it.

I'll post a photo of my blocks. I sent one to Shelley and one to stitchengramie. Very sad looking colors lol

The pink in the middle doesn't match at all.

Doesn't have enough light to dark contrast.

As a beginner to my methods I think you did very well. Everyone has to start somewhere and everyone has areas they can improve on. So it is a journey and we all are on it!

I think your color choices in the first one are okay. I like hte pink and green and the darker blocks are fine. A differant color such as a navy or less of a strong print might have worked better.

The second one is not bad. I wouldn't call it sad I've seen much worse. One hazard to be aware of is choose fabrics that have good contrast either light and dark or light red to light green. Color wheel opposites. then you need to watch the prints. If you have a print that has the same color as the block it will sit beside those colors will blend together and you wont' see the design as well.
Using large prints with small to tiny prints is good contrast too.

It 's all a learning process! I'm sure your partners will treasure them as you made these just for your partners! I always love that I get something that was in my partners hands not long before I get it. It is a connection I really like.

Josy here is tutorial I did that might help you with lining up your seams and keeping your points.
These tips will work with any of my blocks or any quilt block you are working on.

Default Thanks and a Kimono Block

    Rhonda,

Thank you so much for your advice and the tutorials. I will definitely use them while I make my next blocks. I'm creating my own pattern for a kimono quilt for my mother in law. It is very easy with just plain blocks and HST to make a picture of a kimono.

Here is a photo of what I designed using the Quilter's app for the IPad. I'm not using the colors shown, I just put them in there for the purpose of seeing if it would work. I'm going to make it with borders and sashing and different fabric for each of the kimono blocks themselves. I've seen a few patterns on the internet but they were all paper piecing and I'm not ready to try that technique yet.

I just received my block from Shelly. It was beautiful and she added a lovely Christmas tree pieced card.
