I have saved all my DH shirts and pick up many shirts from the thrift stores and estate sales. I check many of the blouses also. I found some blouses with cutwork and embroidery. Those are great for girl quilts and applique. If you don't cut into the applique but very close around it, it can be a great addition to a quilt.

This is fantastic and not only appropriate for a little boy. You are very clever and frugal.

Perfect quilt and pattern. If he decides to hang on to it like so many do, this will definitely last through the years since it isn't a babyish fabric. Great idea.

I find it is quicker to cut the seams off. Bonnie Hunter has a great youtube video on deboning a shirt. She does one shirt in about 7 minutes. time well spent I think.
