great idea for plastic bins with drawers. I'll look for them also.

isn't everything going up after the first of the year. Just wonder how we can continue to pay higher prices. No sense complaining. Sherry

Susan Margaret - I have a similar system to yours but sometimes I found that I took a color from the color-sorted fabrics that I had originally purchased for
a coordinate in another quilt. I now have 20 clear plastic sweater boxes of
fabrics with a pattern inside for quilts that I am committed to making.
However, now I cannot contain my fabrics to one room and am using the attic, the basement and my sewing area off the kitchen to store all the fabrics I own.

good luck - Judy

Some of you have to be kidding. Organize fabric!!! Mine is all in a pile in plastic sacks in one corner of our living room. I'm going to ask Santa for a larger house with a room of my own in which to sew.

I really have a lot of fabric I no longer want, like cotton calico prints but I don't know if other people would want them. I have too much, that's all there is to it.
Maybe I should do another post when I get done in my room.
I will send yardage or pieces free to anyone if they can pay postage. I wish postage was cheaper :(

I would really like to help you out...Just let me know how much the postage is!!!

Sue,
Sort and store your fabric in the way that is pleasing and helpful for YOU. Mine is folded in a particular way if I have a yard or more, and then folded differently if I have 1/2 yard, and then a third fold for fat quarters. Fat quarters are in their own larger-than-a-shoebox plastic bin.

My storage consists of plastic bins, sorted by theme and color. I have florals, butterflies (my fav), blenders/batiks, kids/brights, "groups" (I bought 3 or 4 as a matched set), WoW, and then "other." Holidays are in their own bins. This system works beautifully for me because I can tell at a glance if I have more or less than a yard of a particular fabric. If I have a "set" of fabric, I just need to go to the "groups" bin. I'm sure I will revise the system as I go along ... but for right now ... it works for me.

Start with what you think will work and then go from there. And .... I know the feeling of being overwhelmed with fabric!
