Doesn't it have a crank on the right? It looks like it in the photo. I have one from my childhood (50's-60's), not just like this one. It is in the original box. If you don't have a bobbin, it probably does a chain stitch,

Yes, it has a crank on the side. No bobbin. But a tension on the top. I still haven't gone and gotten batteries to try it out. But, its on my shopping list.
