used to enjoy cutting, but it gets harder & harder to maneuver--WOW, i'm glad to see so many using scraps! can't wait to see some progress!

Based on past experience, I would estimate that quilt, beautiful though it is, will take a good 80 hours to cut by hand, and much more than that to piece. I'd need a very special reason to make that quilt.

I've spent the evening cutting out 6 inch finished half square triangles on my Accuquilt GO. I'm watching a movie, so it's almost painless. Are you sure she wouldn't like a Go or Studio cutter as a gift from her loving husband?

I've never tried using anything less than 2-1/2" squares. Most of Bonnie Hunter's patterns uses 2". Used to think that 5" squares were small - but like someone said - you get a different perspective when you use smaller squares. Congrats to your wife and I know she will enjoy the process. I too, love my June Taylor Shape Cutter. I have two.

If she doesn't already own one, please buy her an AccuQuilt cutter and the 1 inch die. With all the "cutting up"
up she's planning to do, you may never get another home cooked meal.

The mini 9-patch blocks are beginning to take shape. My wife is piecing blocks for a throw that has a Berenstain Bears theme, and using the Leaders & Enders method. She’s got a couple of mini 9-patch blocks made for the 99 Bottles quilt while she been doing so. The 9-patches will start coming faster now that she has the initial Bears blocks completed, and she’ll be doing less chain-sewing to continue that quilt top (she’ll be removing her pieces from under the foot more now, instead of leaving the foot down and feeding another pair of fabric pieces under the foot).

The sewing machine is a 1956 Singer 301A fitted with a current production clear 1/4” foot, and mounted in a 1950s Singer Model 430 "Profile" Three-way Sewing Desk.

I recently saw a beautiful checkerboard/postage stamp quilt made by an Australian lady that blogs as Red Pepper Quilts. No links or pics, as the content isn't mine but worth googling and checking her 2014 finishes.

One caveat, it is "only" 1,600 pieces and 200 fabrics and 50" square. HA! I'll have to work up to making something with so many small pieces.

The 99 Bottle quilt your brave wife is attempting is on my "no, never, uh uh, fergeddaboutit list". Especially with four feline 'assistants'. : )
