That same ghost resides in my home, also. My ex hung my car keys up high on a nail on the kitchen wall. HOURS! My most frustrating day that year. Kitchen table or fridge I could understand. Two feet above my head does'nt work well.
I now look on the floor first when looking for fabric pieces....they don't make noise when they fall.
Age is now 73.

I have to say that my darling kitty purrson Divo, (my Avatar) would be TOTALLY guilty of plucking it off the cutting table, running and hiding it somewhere!!
Right now we're searching high and low for his collar!! Hmmm......
I sincerely hope you find it soon! I have been in this dilemma more times than I care to remember!! Good luck!!

Have had that happen to me as well, then when I made another one there it was. Now I swear that a garment I made for myself & even have wore it & laundered it, now I can not find it anywhere. Total mystery. Have been thinking about making and one.

Have had this happen to me several times -- frequently the phone rings, I run to get the phone and the block goes ????? When packing up my sewing room for a move I was hoping to find the missing blocks, scissors, rulers, ... Now I hope to find them when I unpack since all of the lost and wayward items were put in a single box for safe keeping.

While i have not found that quilt block , i DID find the missing embroidery foot! It was put away in my machine feet storage box! Silly me. I swore that I had left it on top of the shelf above my machine where i leave accessories .

A similar thing happened to me. Never did find the missing block but I think I know what happened to it. The blocks were nicely stacked to the left of my sewing machine. Also on the left was my little waste can (aka: thread catcher). It's very possible that as I picked one of the blocks up, another one fell into the waste can. I discovered the block was missing after the garbage was picked up...
Now I check the waste can before tossing the contents into the household waste. Lesson learned.
