If you don't mind me asking, what does the back side look like please?

That is very nice! Makes me wish I had more time for playing with sewing machines! But I have this building I'm suppose to be working on - and a whole tree full of apples to deal with . . .

But eventually the fall projects will be done and then I can snuggle into a warm sweater and sew and sew and sew (while outside it snows and snows and snows)

Thanks for the kind compliments everyone. Macybaby - it was fun and I hope you find time soon.

CD, here are pics of the backside. The photos don't show it well but there were a few times where the build up of thread caused issues with my #90 needle going through. There are hills of thread on the back in some of the very dense areas that aren't showing well in the photos. I think I'll try free motion embroidery with a smaller needle next time but still ensure that I use a topstitch or embroidery needle so that the eye won't cause unnecessary thread fraying.

Judy, I too am amazed and astounded by your work! Looks like you may have encourage a lot of us to try this out. Somehow after reading through this thread, I stumbled up an Australian woman who does what I guess would be called free form embroidery. Well, it's free form once it is completed. She does a lot of sea themed pieces and they are unbelievable! Here is the link if you are at all interested. It's long but so interesting and thorough. (If you are a member of The Quilt Show, you may have already seen this as I just remembered where I found it.)
