    I also started out to make "rail fence" but accidentily had rectangles not sq's. Was using up strips so put another short strip across the rec and wow happy accident.

    momymom, The reason your quilt "floats" is because you used the same fabric in your rails as you used for the borders and they "touch", giving the floating effect. The size of the rails just gives a larger "chunky" look or a more "dainty" look to the rail depending on the size cut. I really like your quilt and I think you should give it to her now.

    Yes. I know. I wasn't thinking about design possibilities when I put it together. I just needed a quick quilt to give her. I've made many rail fence quilts. It was quick to peice and put together. She's one of the few family members that doesn't have a quilt. I wanted her to have something bright and cheerfull in her room. In that I succeded I think. I'll deliever it to her Fri. or Sat.

    I think you did a terrific job! I love the backing material. I never thought of putting one on that didn't exactly match the top. I like the way it turned out and will try that on my next one! Thanks for the inspiration!
