    I quilted the pillow first, then I added the yo-yos to the top, then I converted it into a pillow :-)

    The yo-yo maker is not so new anymore, but a few years ago these things came out. They come in several sizes (I used the orange one) and they are two pieces of plastic. You sandwich a circle of fabric between them and sew in the holes. Then you open it up and pull the thread. Bingo, you've got a yo yo! Ask your local quilt store, I'm sure they will know what you are talking about.
