At the time, we lived in one of the NYC boroughs (Staten Island), and I was at work near home. DD worked IN Tower #1 and DH was working right across the street. My SIL who lives & was working in Manhattan called me with the news about the incident, and my world just shattered. My boss ran to Radio Shack and purchased a tv so we could follow what was happening. Horrible reception because the antenna was down.

I eventually heard from DH - he got called from one job to go work on a special project at the Continental Airlines terminal at Newark Airport and he left the city just 15 minutes before it started. He was safe, thank God!

At least 2 hours later, my DD came walking into my office to let me know she was safe and sound. We had very spotty telephone/cell service and the lines were busy with people trying to reach their families/friends. Turns out my DD had worked very late the night before and was slow getting herself together in the morning and forgot her ID required to enter the Trade Center buildings, had to go home for the ID and missed her regular bus. As a result of that, she was still commuting to the city but was on Staten Island.

God was watching over us that day. My two loved ones were nowhere near the Towers.

Later that day, our regular group of friends gathered together to share what news we heard to that point. We watched and smelled the foul smoke blowing across the sky. There is truly no way to describe how it affected us. We just hugged and held onto each other.

We all knew people who lost someone. DD's friend lost her 24 year old newlywed DH; a friend lost his DD and the list goes on. So many people lost just sitting at their desks working answering emails, writing letters, taking telephone calls. It's mind boggling.

To this day, I thank the Lord for protecting my family.

A sorrowful Kat, now living in Arizona.

We were having a late lunch here in North Wales and as usual we put News24 on the telly and we saw it as it happened - well we didn't see the first plane but they were reporting it as breaking news and we watched stunned. Could not believe what we were watching. I prayed really hard that day - it was the only thing I could do - as the news got worse and worse. We sat all afternoon glued to the telly and being on the phone to family and friends as we all needed to touch base.

It was my last day as head seamtress for the bridal shop. I hit "burnout" and quit. I was watching TV when Good Morning America told what had just happened. Our family was lucky that day. When one of the planes hit the world trade cneter, the TV news said it was a American Airline flight from Dallas. My heart stopped. BIL is a flight attendent for American based in Dallas. I called his apartment and he answered the phone. He was on reserve for that plane, that day. If 1 person had not gone to work that day, he would have been on that flight. Our nephews wife works near the Pentagon. She was OK, too.

I was home watching the "Today" show and they broke in and I called my sister-in-law in upstate NY, her husband works in NYC and near the towers. He got out unharmed. A day nobody will forget!

I was at work on same day surgery-when one of the patients asked us to turn up the TV. We all watched horrified as the second plane crashed into the tower then again when the towers fell. We carried on what we were doing because we had no choice. I remember saying prayers all day . What an awful awful day.

I had returned the day before from Missouri where my grand daughter was married. I needed to be home to start radiation for breast cancer on the 12th so had left early from Kansas City. Many in the guest list of the wedding were flying home on the 11th so it was a scary time for all. Ten long years ago but clearly seen in memory.

I was on the car pool van on our way to work and heard it on the radio. Got work, turned on the Internet and watched the news. I fell to pieces, our boss sent us all home for the day.

I was sitting at my table sewing name tags on youngest sons' Navy Coveralls for him. His friend called and said turn your TV on. I sat there in disbelief at what I was seeing. Since then my son is a First Class Petty Officer stationed aboard the U. S. S. Enterprise, the oldest air craft carrier in the U. S. Navy. He will be leaving for another tour in Dec.

Being on the west coast, by the time we were up and getting ready for work, the planes had already hit on the east coast. I was glued to my TV watching instead of getting ready for work. Of course, my boss didn't hear anything about it and was a bit put off that I was a few minutes late. Then he refused to turn the TV on in the office so I had to wait until after work to see the devastation the terrorists brought on our country. Very scary and heartbreaking. So many lives............(sigh).
