I honestly cannot remember how big I made those blocks!!! The top I made a LONG time ago but just pulled it out to finish it into a quilt. I think they are 9" solid blocks mixed with 9" nine patches. So to make your nine patches you can strip piece them by sewing together 3.5" strips.
The only thing that might make it more pleasing to the eye than I did, is to add one more row of blocks....so that your quilt both starts with an embroidered/quilted block and ends with one...or stars and ends with a nine patch. Having it uneven the way I did it looks a little heavier on one side...but other than that the top is easy peasy to make!

What compliments - thank you all!! No this was quilted on my rinky dink Brother sewing machine from Walmart! It would have been a lot easier on a long arm as I wouldn't have had to FIGHT with the darn thing. Lol*
