    BelfryBat, I love this idea. I have a spool pin doily (instead of the red felt circle) which my sister crocheted for me on my spool pin, so I usually just run the thread under the doily. Then I have taped two safety pins upside down on the back of my machine and run the thread through the circle in the end of the pins before threading as usual. I bought a couple wooden tubes to put inside my cones, but they are made to put inside the oversized spools. I may try using one of those to put the eye screw in.

    Just a thought, if you want to remove the "shmutz" from your spool pin, just use a little alcohol....
