I had a lot of medium sized ants coming in to help the
cats eat their dry food. Someone on the Internet said to
use white breath mints. I put some around the cat food
tray, had to chop them up because Koko (my rescue half
Siamese) had WAY too much fun batting them around the
kitchen floor.
Never saw another ant in the house since, and that was last
fall. I thought if they worked so good in the house they would
do as well outdoors, but those must be from another group,
they absolutely LOVED those breath mints. So had to go
back to the old faithful..Boric Acid and sugar. That will get
the ants and any roaches that come from the neighbor's big
dogs where they dump a lot of used up food and then it is
rarely cleaned up........

This look like the ants that build nest in the hollow of trees. We trimmed last year & when DH cut off this big live limb it was hollow in side & guess what came pouring out of it. He totally freaked out cause he was about 50 ft up in the air on a platform. Luckily he had a can of wasp spray & got them but I have never seen so many ants.

Cornmeal would be much safer if you have pets that go outside

I have used the Home Defense spray. I soaked the foundation around the part of the house where they were coming in and also the corner of the floor inside. Make sure there are no children or pets around for a while. Haven't had a single ant back and it has been a couple of years!

the best thing we have ever had and it really works...TERRO....

It comes in an orange colored box......you take small squares of the box and squeeze a bit of goo (?) from the tube..and .........ants begone !!!!!!!!!!!!

Got it in the hardware store.....very inexpensive and works wonders.

good luck.........MaryJane

We use Terro for sugar ants in the house and Amdro outside for fire ants. Those fire ants are mean little suckers!

An environmentally friendly cure for fire ants has been announced by Walter Reeves on his "Georgia Gardener" radio program. Testimonials that it REALLY WORKS are coming in.

Simply pour two cups of CLUB SODA (carbonated water) directly in the center of a fire ant mound. The carbon dioxide in the water is heavier than air and displaces the oxygen which suffocates the queen and the other ants. The whole colony will be dead within about two days.

Besides eliminating the ants, club soda leaves no poisonous residue, does not contaminate the ground water, and does not indiscriminately kill other insects. It is not harmful to your pets, soaks into the ground. Each mound must be treated individually and a one liter bottle of club soda will kill 2 to 3 mounds.

Spread the word!

For those not familiar with Walter Reeves, he is from the University of Georgia agriculture department, specializing in home gardening. His television show, 'Gardening in Georgia', is on each Saturday.
