    I think it would be cool. It definitely would be more 3d if you use embellishments.

    Do you have to get permission from the artist? I would think unless you are the artist, it is considered intellectual property, or artistic property. (I hate to be a downer) But if you are going to put the kind of work into it that I suspect you will, and you may want to show it in public, you may need to look into this.

    And I thought my applique with simple pedals was ambitious, you sure have your work cut out for you. Go for it.

    You have the picture so I would enlarge it (at Staples in color). Then place a piece of clear plastic over it and with a very fine point sharpie trace around every color change you see. When done enlarge the tracing to the desired size nd use as your applique pattern to trace and fuse pieces. Like a fabric by numbers puzzle! I do it all the time.
