2025 Various BOMs, QALs, and Mysteries
#72
I have been a lurker on this thread and kept telling myself that I really don't need to start any new projects. Well, we all know how that goes .............. lol ...... So I'll be jumping on this train with the Pieces of the Past's BOW - Sweet Little Baltimore. Thanks 1CharmShort for pointing this one out.

Wonderful block, Thimblebug. And your stitching around the bird is awesome. The first and only time I attempted applique was a disaster so I'm really impressed with people who can do it flawlessly.
Welcome aboard, Sync. We'll look forward to seeing your blocks.
I've spent the weekend futzing around. I have the C&B mystery half quilted and hope to finish tomorrow. Then I'll work on at least one of the BOMS. But I also pulled out the fabric I need to finish one of the UFOs, so who knows what I'll actually get done?

I also love Thimblebug's block. I love the look of applique, but just don't have the patience to stick with it. Now if they had the patterns set up to use my embroidery machine to do the work, I'd be into that!
I've got the next clue for the Vday mystery done. This one was putting together the small 4 patch with the hearts. I think there is only one more clue for this mystery.
And then blocks 4 & 5 for the scrappy sampler. I'm trying to use up the extra green triangles I miss-cut for the New Years mystery - I got my counts messed up and cut about 120 more dark triangles than I needed.

The last installment for the Valentine's mystery is out - and I've got a problem. I need to make 6 more of one of the blocks, and since I used up all my scraps making the first 6, the next group would need to be cut from yardage so would not get near the variations. Had I known there were 12 to start with, I could have cut yardage and then mixed all around enough to have all 12 blocks with a good assortment. Oh well, adds to the challenge! I've got an idea that I think might work, would mean using only 4 of the blocks I already made and making an additional 8 that sort of match.

Just downloaded the next two blocks for the Scrappy Sampler. One is applique so I'll be swapping out for something else. though since it's using 4.5" blocks with a gentle curve, I may try sewing it first as it's fun to have some curves in with all the straight lines.

I got the Valentine's Mystery put together. Ended up deconstructing the original 6 blocks and swapping out the scrappy white for 6" solid blocks. I used the 2.5" squares for the border, and only needed a few more to have enough. I cut more 2.5" pink and mixed them into what I had before. I had just ripped apart 30 rows of 3 blocks (for a 9 patch) that I'd messed up so I had a day of a lot of quality time with my seam ripper!
Over all, I like how this turned out. My problems were more due to changing things around than with the instructions. I went way more scrappy than what is in the original design.

Here are blocks 6 and 7 for the Scrappy Sampler. I was able to make block 7 on the sewing machine. I drew up the template and tried sewing one curve and decided it was easy enough so went ahead and made the block - only to discover I'd made the template too small! So I redid the template and made the second one the correct size. The small one will go in my tote of orphan blocks, and when I have enough, they'll get put into a quilt. So far I've made two orphan block quilts.
