I recently heard from a quilt pro on TV that it "buries" the thread into the seam. I prefer doing it since it shapes the seam edge of fabric.

Yes, always! Was taught to do it in dressmaking and have continued the practice - I think it gives a flatter finish.

I do because it seems to lay flatter when I press my seams. It is automatic to me after doing it all this time, so I cannot really say it makes that much difference. We will be waiting for a report.

I always set my seams first. I have heard it explained that it compresses the thread into the fabric. I think it just gets the fabric warm and it folds better.
