Get a couple of yards of gray fabric and hang it up on the wall for a few days of cloudy and bright weather to see how well it works. One thing about it, it will make a good background to hang very bright quilts on.
    And
a decorator's tip... paint only one wall gray, the others white.

HATE grey. Went to a Catholic High School, and had to wear the most hideous uniforms for 4 years. I have no grey in my house, and have bought nothing grey in almost 40 years!!!!!!!

Funny you should ask, because I am moving my sewing/creative space and am going to paint it gray.

I find gray a depressing color...would not use in my house. Might use small amount in a quilt for a specific reason...but as a last resort. Reminds me of cloudy, depressing days.

I agree. My only sister in law has grey everywhere in Fl.
Her accent color is mauve. Even her floor is marble chips painted grey. She only likes grey/black and white.

Yes, light grey painted walls. It is a cool neutral. Many accent colors can go with it. I also have rooms with grey contemporary designed wallpapper in it in our formal dining room.
All grey carpeting. It too is a cooling color, it does not show marks easily, since most marks are blackish grey from shoes and dirt. Accent colors used in the past, pink, currently using lavender and deep purple and white. If you like pure white in things....wood trim, your doors, or shades, as opposed to off white, beige, cream.....you will really like using grey. I have never liked cream for some reason....always preferred pure white....so this was a good choice for me and was easy to change accent colors through the years.

My master bath is steel grey with white and silver accents. Not the "its in this year" grey...it's been that way for going on 15 years!!!
