Yes, I think you need the sashing because you need a place for the eye to rest.

I think I would make it without the sashing. It makes so many secondary patterns when the blocks aren't separated.

IMHO, either one will looke fantastic. I guess I would ask myself the question do you want a "scrappy"busy quilt or a "peaceful" quilt. If you want scrappy then no sashing, if you want each block to have it's on personality then sashing. I just went through this myself. Hope this helps.. Please post pics when your done

both are lovely, just I think the sashing winds - it makes the pattern stand out a bit more and gives your viewing more focus

I thought with sashing first, then thought the second way looks more modern or like it has more movement or something. My eyes are drawn all over, not to a particular shape, if that makes sense.

So, have you decided yet????? So many opinions and at quick scan looks like pretty evenly divided. I have this problem deciding with some pinwheel blocks that I have as a UFO.

I like the sashing, makes the pretty blocks stand out more. But other is pretty too.
