Has anyone noticed a difference in the quality of "quilt shop" fabric in recent years? I have a large stash of fabrics purchased back in the 1990's & early 2000's. Maywood was one of my favorite fabric manufactureres, but I was just told by a QB member that she was having a problem with newly purchased Maywood fabric.

I noticed it when I pulled out a "vintage" fabric from 10 yrs ago and put it with a new one from the same TOP manufacture. It was noticably thinner in my hand. I thought it was a single instance but .... it was more common than I had hoped.
Disappointing to say the least.

Thank you for expressing this--I'm with Sue: I was afraid to say it out loud thinking I'd offend someone or come off as a "fabric snob" (I'm not, I shop Walmart to LQS). I recently ordered fabric from a top site and I'm so disappointed. The fabric ravels on the edges and I know it's cut on the straight of grain; all the fabrics I rec'd from this site ravel. Also, I use a lot of batiks; the ones I ordered from this same "top" selling site are totally different from any other batiks including Joann's. They are very thin and limp--that's not batik to me. I haven't purchased any fabric since before Christmas because I'm afraid to.
Thanks for starting this thread--I was beginning to think I was nuts (well I am, but that's a whole 'nother topic!).
Back to the batiks, I can't mix them or use them with the other batiks in my stash because of the different weight-I tried and they behave too differently to mix.

yes I have noticed the decline in the quality but not price. the new fat quarters at joanns are loosely woven and feel very limp but certainly charged more.

I think so too. In fact, I haven't bought any more of their FQ's for that reason.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I wouldn't doubt it. We seldom order fabric from warehouses without being there to look and feel of it. I've had to send too much back in the last year because it didn't meet our standards.

I can tell my older fabric from the new by feel and how the older drapes so much nicer. The new fabric lines especially Moda are much thinner but has prettier colors. I guess ink is cheaper then cotton.
