Well, I think each person has a general color palette, or style, even if each quilt is very different.

For me, neutrals aren't in it. ;) At all.

So if I found some fabulous lime green or purple fabric, preferably on sale, I'd pick up 6-7 yards for a backing. And I like pieced backings, so if it's not enough, I can always build it up, either with leftover fabrics from the actual quilt top- you know, when it finally gets made in 2015  - or with other fabric in my stash.

If someone is into all those Moda/Amy Butler/Art Gallery collections, for instance, a backing from one can easily work on a quilt top done with fabrics from a different collection. Or maybe Thimbleberries are your thing. Same concept.
I'm in the brights, saturated color camp. So I know I won't need the Thimbleberry fabric. Ever. ;)

No. But, when it happens and a quilting store is going out of business, they offer some pretty good deals. That's how I got a lot of my stash.

Do a search online for wholesale fabric and it will bring up a list you can start checking out.

There are a few good ones online but don't have that with me right now.

Yes, they do. I do however suggest it is best to check out the fabric in person from them because I know for a fact if you don't you can get some really cheap fabric that is not worth buying. Plus the shipping is high.

I found a place on Ebay that sells warm and natural and also Insolbright at a good price for a bolt of it. I don't buy my fabrics by the bolts as I like to buy 2 to 4 yards of colors at a time so I get lots of prints and colores. I go to FC Harris for most of my quilt fabric, thread by the cone, and other notions.
