Be very careful with WalMart fabrics. Some are terrific, others are indeed garbage!
If a fabric it too thin, it doesn't get thicker. And if it has a stiff and starchy feeling ... it will be nasty after washing. The stiffness can easier mask cheap fabric as a filler to give the fabric more substancial feel.
That said, I will look for these flat folks. rightnow, we still have a walMart near me that has a real fabric dept.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal this past week regarding WalMart and how they're bringing back fabric to their stores. The Sioux Falls WalMart closest to my house here in Sioux Falls has always carried fabric.

Actually it's not just there new stores. They are doing the same with older stores and bringing back bolts but alot less of it.
A neighboring town just had there store revamped and it was reduced to half in space with wall hangings as mention in fat quarters, stack 5" and 10" much better quality and the price is right.
They made the cutting table half the size it was and half of bolts was left including fleece and that is not better quality than what they have on the walls.
Same thing will happen to our store in August.

we are in Pahrump, NV right now. The WM here has nice fabric on the bolt and more arriving daily. Depending on the hour of the day it is sometimes hard to get someone to cut (there is a bell to ring). I have cut it myself and taken it to customer service with the bolt (for pricing). Got help real fast.
It amazes me how we can bash WalMart and JoAnns on this site, but comments about other stores are deleted. I have ordered on line from other places and received fabric far below the quality of what WM sells.

I asked a clerk in our Wal-Mart when the fabrics were coming back. She said "our manager said it would be over his dead body when fabrics will be back in this store." I almost said that could be arranged. But I was having a nice day. That was the first time I had been in Wal Mart since last November. Have to wait for the obit in the paper to go there again.

Walmart IS listening to us to bring back fabric, but we didn't dream it would be this way. They heard us once - let's shout out - bring back our BOLTS. I don't always want to buy 2 yard minimum just to get a half yard for a companion color. I've written to headquarters and our 3 local Walmarts. Also every time I'm in a Walmart I ask for the manager and explain that quilters know their business well - so listen to us carefully and everyone will be happy -customers and management too.
