there are 7 of our guild members that do needleturn. Our guild has about 25 members. I do needleturn and other applique. In fact I am working on a Hawaiian applique that I designed myself. I went to Hawaii for a Hawaiian applique class (3days). And It is all needleturn.

I still applique but not as much as I use to, only because I have carpal tunnel syn. Think that a lot of quilters are so busy with family and life that they want to do something that is faster. Applique by hand takes time and I am not fond of machine Applique. I just appliqued calico bears in the corners of a baby bearpaw crib quilt. It just added so much to the quilt.

I haven't done any NTA, but am definitely planning to do it on a quilt I have designed in my mind. I have several other projects to finish before I tackle something new. I agree with all those who say it looks beautiful. I know machine applique has it's place and uses, but I do love the look of and appreciate the time it takes to do the NTA.
I'm glad and encouraged to see there are so many out there who still do it    I'm definitely going to check out the on-line tutorials and will probably be asking lots of questions here once I get to it.

I have been wanting to try needle turn (I love to do hand embroidery in front of TV)- - just always have this little voice in my head that says "is it (attaching the applique) going to be strong enough to last?" vs machine applique after all of that work - - - guess I need to quite typing and get out there and try it and then I will know!

Go here to see it demonstrated at:

Watch the 7 min video to see gen info, inside points/curves, outside curves and points.
Yes, I love it. Even though I machine sew, I do needle turn in the evening by the TV or when I am resting in bed.
I have been doing it since 2000. I felt confident after about 20 hrs of stitching. Practice with a heart shape. That has the basic shape parts you need to learn.
