Why is it that I can stand at the ironing board all day ironing fabric and pressing seam allowances but the minute I am asked to iron a shirt or something else, it becomes a chore and I feel really put out by it?

Personally, for me, it's because I ironed so much clothes in the late 50s & 60s. When my older 2 were in their teens and 100% cotton became popular, I told them I would buy the clothes, but they had to iron them. So, they learned to iron.

right next to sewing all day- but when the mending comes through the door---it gets put on a closet shelf (hopefully never to be seen again-much to my hubby's dismay)
takes me a year or two to hem a pair of pants...but i can put out a couple dozen quilts !

quilting consumes me...i quilt in my sleep- and really don't want to mend, make dresses (or anything else for that matter) anymore- there are too many quilts to get to before i die....my bucket list has quilts on it :)

I always say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE being domestic (cooking, cleaning and quilting or other crafts) but ONLY ON MY TERMS. :) When its expected of me? Oh ya... not gonna happen. :)

That happens BECAUSE....YOU enjoy quilting and its just part of the process and is FUN.
Just regular ironing...that is a CHORE and isnt any fun. And we don't like chores.
