    It's taken some time but I finally figured out how to attach a photo here, I hope. This is the Singer I found at the yard sale on Sunday. Can anyone give me any info on the year and if the opening in the top is for cams. I'd love to find a manule for this but can't until I know more about it.

    You found a beauty. It was the top of their line when purchased new. It's one of the 300 series. Congratulations

    It looks like the machine my mom had in the early 60's, but I don't know the specific year. Hers had cams for decorative stitching.

    Yes, that opening is for cams. It's a Singer 400 series (403 or similar..not sure which). There are others on here who will know which model it is by sight! This is a good machine.

    You have found a Singer 403! And yes the opening at the top is for the stitch cams, which you can easily find on e-bay. Congrats! These are fantastic machines - I'm still sewing on my late Mom's 1956 model!

    No, it's actually a 400 series...403 per Sheryl's post.
